How to make a website – getting our web hosting
A good host doesn’t mean a cheap host. Price comes second. The most important is to be reliable…
Once we have made a decision about our domain name and we know the name we want for our website, we can proceed with our web hosting.
Needless to say that there is a wide variety of web hosting providers to choose from. In order to help you choose, we have prepared a list of the best web hosting providers (you can find this list here).
Once you decide which web hosting provider to go with, you should visit their website and buy yourself a web hosting plan.
For today’s lesson (and example) we are going to use JustHost. JustHost is a great hosting provider for medium to small businesses, resellers or individuals and we have been using them for more than 2 years. They have proved to be a very good and reliable hosting provider and on top of that they provide you with a FREE domain name!* So let’s do this…
Step 1: let’s get there!
Select “Sign Up Now”
Step 2: get your domain name!
Select the left box “I Need a Domain Name” and provide them with your desired domain name. Make sure that you provide them with a domain name that is available. Remember that you can check for domain name availability here.
Once you do this select “NEXT” and you will be prompted to the next page where you need to create your account, select your exact web hosting plan (select the time length of the plan plus various hosting options) and finally provide them with your billing information.
Step 3: provide them with your basic info
this is quite straight forward I think… 🙂
Step 4: select the exact web hosting plan you wish
Make sure that you will select all options carefully before you sign up. As you will see the longer you buy the service, the cheaper it gets. But you may want to try them first just for a year, and then decide if you want to renew with them or not.
Also, you will notice that some web hosting options are pre-checked for you. To be honest I don’t agree with this practice. I would rather select myself the options I want and not be presented with a pre-checked form. The way it is now can be confusing as someone may not pay the required attention and proceed to the next stage, obviously ending up paying a much greater sum of money than what he thought he would pay. I know that this can happen, it happened already to a couple of my friends. So be careful!
The only option I would seriously consider to keep is the Site Backup Pro option.
If you read our review about JustHost you will see that we mention that their basic package does come with some Courtesy Site Backups, but we also state that this is not enough as someone wants to have a proper and regular back up service. So we strongly suggest that you check this.
Step 5: proceed with your billing information
Once all done proceed with your billing information. Enter all the required data, double check that they are correct, and select “NEXT”.
Step 6: check your email
If the card transaction is approved, then a message will notify you that all is OK, and a couple of emails will be sent to your email account.
We suggest that you keep these emails and never delete them. The most important is the “welcome email” that provides you with information such as “getting started”, “account” and “FTP” information. If you registered a domain name, you will also get an email regarding your new registration. Now, you will need all this information handy, so you might as well copy it to a file (a word document will do) for future reference.
But hey, we can look into this information in our next lesson. For the time being, be happy! You just got yourself a registered domain name and a space in the web! We are almost ready!
